Rodney Atkins – “It’s America”
When we last heard Rodney Atkins, his platinum selling ablum If You're Going Through Hell was spinning out 4 #1 hits. Now in 2008, Atkins is ready for the next round, and the first single, "It's America" off his as yet untitled new CD that is set for an early 2009 release.
Is "Its America" Glory Bound?
Patriotic songs always seem to have a soft-spot in Country Music for the Patriotic song. Country Music is Pure America, and most of us aren't ashamed to say we love this country. I've seen other websites talk about how cliche the song is, and how its pandering. This may be the case, but I believe that "It's America" is likely to go near the top of the charts. Wil "Its America" become Rodney Atkins' 5th #1? Its hard to say. But I doubt, either way, that this will be the last we hear of Atkins.

And that is exactly why this song represents both the worst of contemporary country music and the worst of contemporary patriotism. It’s not because of bad grammar (a crime all its own), but because here syntax and meaning have both been displaced by symbolism. - The 9513
In the end the mix drowns out the lyrics and to be frank, Rodney Atkins isn’t a great technical singer and would be better suited with acoustic sounds than with this ‘branded’ image they’re presenting. - Roughstock
It merely grasps for catchphrases that are well-known to the radio audience, relying on this recognition to inspire brief moments of connection between the music and the listener. Few consumers won’t be able to latch onto at least one of these examples, but “It’s America” is a disposable effort that fails to construct any meaning behind the music. - CountryUniverse.net
Rodney Atkins - "Its America" Lyrics
drivin' down the street today
i saw a sign for lemonade
there were the cutest kids
i'd ever seen in this front yard
as they handed me my glass
smilin' thinkin to myself
man what a picture perfect postcard
this would make
of America
it's a high school prom, it's a Springsteen song,
it's a ride in a Chevrolet
it's a man on the moon, it's fireflies in June, and kids sellin' lemonade
it's cities and farms, it's open arms, one nation under God
it's America
later on when I got home
I flipped the TV on
I saw a little town that some
big twister tore apart
and people came from miles around
just to help their neighbors out
I was thinkin' to myself
I'm so glad that I live in America
it's a high school prom, it's a Springsteen song, it's a ride in a Chevrolet
it's a man on the moon, and fireflies in June, and kids sellin' lemonade
it's cities and farms, it's open arms, one nation under God
it's America
now we don't always get it all right
there's no place else
I'd rather build my life
a dancing kid with a chance
it's a rock-n-roll band
it's a farmer cuttin' hay
it's a big flag flyin'
in the summer wind
over a fallen heros grave
it's a high school prom, it's a Springsteen song, it's a welcome home parade
it's a man on the moon, it's fireflies in June, and kids sellin' lemonade
it's cities and farms, it's open arms, one nation under God
it's America
