Chris Young wants to be the man he wants to be
Reality star alums have gone on to do various ridiculous and successful things since the inception of the trend in the 2000s, and you can now add Chris Young to the list of the latter. The winner of the 2006 series Nashville Star, Young has already scored a slew of top 50 U.S. country chart singles, and looks to break the top 20 or the top 10 with new song “The Man I Want to Be.”
The kind of song that makes you reflect on yourself, your life and your love, “The Man I Want to Be” is a lament of the kind of person the writer wishes he was, and want his love wants him to be. The song is the third single from Young’s second album of the same name, and the album has reached as high as sixth on country charts, after the success of his top three debut album in 2006.
“The Man I Want to Be” is heavy in emotional lyrics, deep and strong vocals and a sparse instrumentation of lyrical violin and guitar. The song was written by the Grammy-winning Brett James and follows in a line of Young’s previous success with heartbreak, life and love.
Past success under Young’s belt include the popular “Drinkin’ Me Lonely” and “Voices,” which propelled the singer to a spot on RCA records top lineup of country artists. The Tennessee native began his career playing bars and clubs, and has even released two independent albums before his RCA releases.
A young veteran at the age of 24, Young has already recorded with Willie Nelson, covered Waylon Jennings and delved into country topics beyond his years and ahead of the time. He has partied and loved on songs, and has lived down home country, and fans have appreciated the grass roots route that Young took to stardom, and his song’s reflect the years that he has spent honing his craft.

"The Man I Want To Be" Lyrics
God, I'm down here on my knees
Cause it's the last place left to fall
Beggin' for another chance
If there's any chance at all
That you might still be listenin'
Lovin' and forgivin' guys like me
I've spent my whole life gettin' it all wrong
And I sure could use your help cause from now on
I wanna be a good man
A 'do like I should' man
I wanna be the kind of man the mirror likes to see
I wanna be a strong man
And admit that I was wrong, man
God I'm asking you to come change me
To the man I want to be
There's anyway for her and me to make another start
Could you see what you could do
To put some love back in her heart
Cuz' it going to take a miracle
After all I've done to really make her see
That I wanna be a statement
I wanna be a great man
I wanna be the kind of man that she shes in her dreams
God, I wanna be your man
And I wanna be her man
God, I only hope she still believes
In the man I want to be
Well, I know this late at night that talk is cheap
Lord, don't give up on me
I wanna be a givin' man
I wanna really start livin' man
God, I'm asking you to come change me
To the man I wanna be

Thanks for the review…I just have one question. Why didn’t you mention his SMASH #1 hit, Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song), in your review? Just saying.
