On the heels of her newest radio release from her sophomore album 'Fearless' earlier this month, country sweetheart and teen superstar Taylor Swift is already climbing the charts with another hit and has broken the digital download record previously held by pop princess Britney Spears. The tune that has zealous fans clamoring to download from their favorite music websites onto their I-Pods is the feel good ditty 'Today Was a Fairytale' from the soundtrack for 'Valentine's Day', the romantic comedy in which Taylor Swift makes her feature film debut alongside an all-star cast on February 12th.

Closely following within the footsteps of her previous singles 'Love Story' and 'White Horse', as expected, 'Today Was a Fairytale' is laden with images of fictitious stories inspired by the Brothers' Grimm. In what is quickly becoming an expert niche that almost outshines her penchant for writing about young love gone wrong, Swift combines the mentioning of damsels in distress and handsome princes along with the realities of the modern world where teenage boys wear dark gray T-shirts and jeans instead of tights.

Mellow and easygoing with an energy that is vaguely reminiscent of the acoustic love ballads that ruled the airwaves in the 1970's, 'Today Was a Fairytale' does not focus on overly extravagant horse-drawn carriages, glass slippers or ruffled ball gowns. Instead, throughout the song, Swift finds special moments that occur during the lovely day such as: simple hand holding, sincere compliments and the magical feeling that consumes her when they kiss that turn an ordinary afternoon into a fairytale.

With sweet lyrics and a palatable tune laced with a signature whispery sweet vocal, 'Today Was a Fairytale' will undoubtedly trail the path of Swift's other releases and find success on pop radio along with the country charts. As Valentine's Day draws closer, even adults who are besotted with feelings of love may find themselves swooning alongside the teenagers and tweens who may be swaying to the song at upcoming formal dances. Other music lovers of all ages, who are quickly tiring of heartfelt romantic sentiment and fairytale images, can hold out hope that Miss Swift will produce another witty radio hit about heartache and mistakes later this year when she returns to the studio to prepare material for her third studio album.
