Okay, I admit it. I wasn't really a huge fan of "Holler Back" from The Lost Trailers, but the more I hear it, the more I like it. I was a fan of "Country Man", but I guess it just had to sink in. I'm putting their new CD titled (appropriately enough) "Holler Back" on the list of "gotta haves" this summer.
This really is the summer of Georgia music, and The Lost Trailers are just another example. Here's more info about the band:
Stokes Nielson and Ryder Lee were writing and producing music as early as high school in Alexandria, Virginia. Their first album together was the self-issued The Story of the New Age Cowboy in 2000. Initially, Ryder and Stokes worked with a bass guitarist and a drummer, forming a group known as Stokes Nielson & The Lost Trailers (later shortened to The Lost Trailers); the name was penned after the band's equipment trailers had been stolen for the third time.
At the time, one of the Lost Trailers, Stokes Nielson, was also working as a disc jockey for a radio station in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2000, after an interview with Willie Nelson, Stokes offered him a demo version of The Lost Trailers' material; Nelson immediately offered the band an opportunity to play at Nelson's annual Fourth of July picnic, which he held in Texas. Stokes assumed the role of songwriter and guitarist, with Ryder serving as keyboardist and vocalist. The Lost Trailers' membership was finalized with Stokes' younger brother, Andrew, as keys player, Jeff Potter as drummer, and Manny Medina as bassist. The band then gained a following throughout the Southeast and Texas, performing more than 200 shows yearly.

I wanted to get some input on a new feature we're doing, that we're now calling "The Digital Jukebox

*Its not finished. Let us know the bugs you find, and the good and the bad about the whole thing.
**We're uploading songs all the time. None of the current rankings are either accurate or set in stone. Basically as we build a database, we're putting the songs into a category. We'll be moving things around, adding more features and so on an so-forth.
CMT is trying as hard as they can not to play Colt Ford more often, and its no wonder. He is the closest thing to real country music on that network, I don't care if he's rapping. Of course, they're trying to sell you on Colbie Caillat and an an old Michael Buble song (not that old) as country, so what would you expect in the 3 hours they play videos each day.
As much as I hate myspace, you can't discount its ability to tell you what's really going on with music. Its definitely not perfect, but the kids love that thing, and Colt Ford is the # 8 Indie artist on the country myspace charts, and on the way up. The people are trying to tell you something, CMT
Now that I've thrown CMT under the bus, I'm going to ask you to watch it tomorrow @ 11a.m. and vote for Colt Ford (or Sugarland, they're a Georgia band too) during Power Picks.

Freshman 15 - "Our California Song"
Buy Freshman 15 music on their myspace page

Freshman 15 - A Flowery Branch GA band is making its way up the myspace charts fast, and its no wonder - "Our California Song" is radio ready, and all their songs have a real potential for mass appeal. They make no bones about the fact that its pop. If they played pop like Freshman 15 on Star94 more, I might try to listen sometime
With intricate harmonies and catchy rhythms, Freshman 15 has been hitting the Southeast with an infectious pop-punk sound that has been known to energize crowds and leave you with a song stuck in your head. Originally formed in 2001, Freshman 15 has gone through a lot of changes and struggles over the years. Through all of the financial and personal difficulties, the group has hurdled over ever obstacle with a new found determination.
Now, the band is looking to hit the road utilizing the talents of David Fortner (Guitar/Vocals), Jeremy Smith (Guitar/Vocals), Breck Blanchard (Drums) and David Lind (Bass/Vocals). Building on their past accomplishments and recent triumphs, Freshman 15 is organizing a spring/summer tour to support their new EP, "Five Ways to Get to Third Base."
Following their dreams, having the dedication and the talent to make it happen; Freshman 15 will be the next name placed on marquees across America.

Listen to "Son Of The Bourbon"
We've been down with Blackberry Smoke since day one. These guys are Southern Rock. and rock they do. They've toured with ZZTop, and it looks like they're spending their summer on the water (They're on Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man Cruise, and Rock Boat 9.
Its the Summer of Georgia Music, and Blackberry Smoke's getting in the act with Honky Tonk Bootlegs. You can here "Son of The Bourbon" on the station, and on this blog anytime you want. But to really experience the Blackberry Smoke experience, you'll need to scoot on over to to the band's website and pick up HTB.
BBSmoke has a distinctive Southern sound that is unfortunately missing on over-the-air radio, but I don't see how they can hold this band down much longer.
We scour the internet for Georgia's Best music. We get a lot of good music submitted that never gets played.
But when we heard Viciou$ we knew we needed to get this out to the masses.
This Atlanta Georgia rapper is set to release The Chronicles on July 15th, and you'll be able to buy it here at the Jukebox (via CD Baby), or at his myspace page, so check back, because we think you're going to want this.
Biography Viciou$ is an Atlanta based hip hop artist with a track record that dates back to the mid 90's. He was in a group with his two cousins and friend called A.T.F.C. Viciou$ started freestyling at the tender age of 8. When he was 11 years old Viciou$ started writing his own songs. By the time he was 14 years old he was doing shows and recording songs. Viciou$ brings romance, energy, excitement, storytelling, and true to life lyrics. He truly defines versatility from a hip hop perspective. In 1998, Viciou$ decided to step away from hip hop due to a very hostile separation with the group. About 2 years later Viciou$ met Tyrone Davis (Founder/CEO of N.O.H. records). Tyrone had a huge impact on Viciou$'s decision to start rapping again. Not long afterwards Tyrone was murdered.
God puts people in your life for a reason and Viciou$ feels that Tyrone being put in his life was God's way of letting him know what he's supposed to be doing with his life. Viciou$'s mission is to challenge the industry by continuing to put out quality music. He says, "Quality is what being an artist is all about."

Its finally here

The Georgia Theatre - A Classic City Icon
If you've ever spent any time in Athens Georgia, you've spent lots of time at The Georgia Theatre. I spent most of the nineties in the Georgia Theatre Balcony (I was the guy with the funny hat). Its a right of passage for young Southern singers and bands to headline the Georgia Theatre.

One of our long-time favorites Ishues has released a new video for "Problems", a great song off his CD Civil Unrest.
When this young Athens Georgia hip-hop activist was KRS-One's hype man, the hip-hop icon knew this guy had promise. We couldn't agree more.

Mainstream radio may be skeert to play Ishues music, but The Jukebox has been down since day one, and we're going to continue to highlight his music.
